AGE CONCERN MIJAS AND FUENGIROLA IS FOR EVERYONE
Age Concern Mijas and Fuengirola - It appears that some people have the idea that Age Concern ( Fuengirola y Mijas ) is restricted to only uk and Irish ex-pats. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Age Concern ( Fuengirola y Mijas ) was established to provide advice, support and friendship to ALL over 50´s English speaking expats in Fuengirola and Mijas. We continue to welcome individuals from any country. All we ask is that they can converse in English so that they can feel part of our extended family.
One such individual who has embraced this ethos is our own SIGI MESSENGER. Sigi was born in Germany and as an Army wife traveled extensively. Even now she continually goes to both Germany and England to visit family.
If there is something that needs to be done within the Charity you can rest assured that Sigi will be involved. She believes that self improvement is the key to an enriched life and that life itself is to be lived and not just observed from the sidelines.
It was nearly three years ago that following an injury Sigi contacted the Charity for some assistance. She became a valued client and when she was restored to full health decided that she would like to join our Volunteer team and help others.
Sigi is one of our Volunteer drivers and also befriends many of our clients. She speaks English, German and Spanish and would love for other nationalities to come and join the team. Sigi is a real livewire - you have to be with wide spread family that includes six grandchildren and one great grandchild!
When asked what she gets out of being a Volunteer her reply is brief and succinct " I love helping people" she replies - and that really says it all.
Sigi knows that there are many other people from different nationalities who would love to help but just need to take that first step. As a Charity we are growing as the demand for our help continues to grow. We need more Volunteers and especially if you have a car and are willing to spend a couple of hours or more a week we would love to talk to you.
If you would like to become a Volunteer or think that we could help you then please get in touch by calling our Lifeline on 652537615 or pop into the Manila bar - next to the Yaramar hotel on the Los Boliches promenade on Thursday between 11am and 1pm.
